We went to a great Italian restaurant in Fishkill last night after seeing The Artist, the first movie I have seen in years where there was no hearing issue for me. the movie was terrific but when I sat down in the restaurant there were two women sitting at the adjoining table.
They were old friends from Newburgh, both married and were out for a girl’s evening. The only reason I mention this is because I asked them if I could take a picture of their table, where two cell phones were at the constant ready. We started talking and I said I was going to write about the idea of going out to dinner and spending a good deal of time texting or sending messages while eating. They were very talkative and said that one husband had texted them but the other hadn’t. The husbands apparently were out together also at some club.
When I looked around the restaurant more than half the tables had cell phones sitting on them, many being used. The bar had about five people drinking chatting and mostly texting.
Has the world gone mad? I will have to text all my friends to get their opinions. Maybe soon there will be a 12 step program for serial texters. I will be the first to join.
