The same neighbor who gave us the indestructible Weber Grill also many years ago gave us two elm trees. they are called Liberty Elms and if I remember they come from Maine and are supposed to be immune to Dutch Elm disease. I don’t remember exactly when I planted them but probably about ten years ago, maybe more, and they are growing nicely as you can see from the pictures below.

There is a good argument that as you grow older you should not plant small trees as they take so long to grow but I do not subscribe to that theory and in fact planted three small pear trees this Spring and so far they have avoided drought and deer and in three years they will hopefully bear fruit.

I have never believed in planting mature trees. that is for the very rich and impatient, so here are the Liberty Elms, may they continue to flourish!
