We were over at a friend’s house in Stanfordville a few weeks ago and although I had posted a picture before, a closer inspection showed some wonderful details of a perfect corn crib. There are not many left and surely only a few in this condition. The idea of using old license plates to cover holes is a perfect example of a farmer’s practical approach to a problem. I remember at a funeral a few years ago, the son of a local farmer told how his father had always banged out the dent in a nail so it could be used again. Planned obsolesence never existed for those old time Hudson Valley farmers.
