I closed comments about a year ago because of the 18,000 comments which were spam, but I still get email comments which I sometimes share. Two good ones here:

1- comment on the Model T video-Model T sequence is from Speedy (1928) starring the great (and largely unknown today) Harold Lloyd. Babe Ruth is featured in the film playing himself. The movie was released on blu-ray this month on the Criterion label. (The movie as was released on the lesser DVD format in 2005.)

Much of the film takes place in Coney Island, where Lloyd gazes upon his image in a fun house distorting mirror and gives himself the finger. I replayed that scene three times and did some research, all of which proved I was not
seeing things!

The below a newsy email comment from a reader in California, It sounds like one of those notes that Garrison Kiellor on Prairie Home Companion reads, but from an actress who was the star of Eight is Enough and Spielberg’s only forgotten film, 1941

2-YOUR BLOG IS GREAT! I HAVE PASSED IT TO SOME FRIENDS AND THEY ENJOY IT. WATCHED THE DEBATES YESTERDAY. WE NEED EISENHOWER, TOO BAD HE IS LONG GONE. OR JOHN WAYNE…. …MATT HAD TO STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL DUE TO AN EMAIL THREAT. THE WORLD IS GOING MAD. VERY MUCH LIKE THE THEME OF THE MOVIE I MADE… 1941. . LOTS OF PANIC AND LACK OF LEADERSHIP.
